Essence of Sri Ramana Maharishi's teachings and concepts - Part 3

Updated: Mar 20, 2021

  1. Submission to Guru, God, Self is all that is needed

  2. The renunciation is the renunciation of desires, passions and attachments

  3. It is no help to change the environment. Every man acts according to Prarabdha (destiny).

  4. Bhagwan by his Grace makes possible Self Enquiry, meditation for those who follow him.

  5. Bhagwan's usual method is to sow spiritual seed in the heart and leave it to shape the outer life.

  6. The absolute(being) is the self of cosmos and of every being.

  7. Action(doing) and knowledge are not obstacles to each other.

  8. Pure Mind is Shakti swarupa. Mind(thoughts) is form of energy.

  9. True Bhakti(devotion) is surrender of ego to the Self, like the Sun, God is only a witness.

  10. Passion and attachments are in the mind. Until one sees the formless self, one cannot truly worship the God.

  11. Bhagwan is Universal. Nobody can move or go away from Bhagwan.

  12. Doubtful nature, wrong interpretations, ignorance are the obstacles in the spiritual journey.

  13. The fact is neither birth nor death takes place.

  14. What is destined to happen will happen however much you might try to stop it.

  15. What is not to happen will not happen any time.

  16. You are the Self, you are already that. The false identification with the body and mind should go.

  17. When you identify with the body, names and forms are there.

  18. Realized soul does not see the world apart from himself.

  19. Self Enquiry or Vichara is the direct and shortest route for self realization.

  20. Abiding in self is solitude.

  21. Bhagwan's grace stirs ones heart and thus outer Guru(Guru Ramana) turns oneself inwards to awareness of the Guru (self realization) within. Thus there is no need for words.

  22. Meditation is turning the mind inwards to the awareness beyond thought.

  23. To seek one's self and merge in it is called Wisdom.

  24. Self Enquiry is a continuous one - daily activity whenever thought process occurs.

  25. So long as there is an idea that body is the self, one cannot be the realizer of truth, whoever might be.

  26. Mental concepts - 'I' and 'Mine' are to be destroyed.

  27. Mind gets the reflected light from the Self as the Moon gets it from the sun. Mind's shadow light gets merged in the Self like Moonlight.

  28. When mind is not illumined, it is not aware of the world.

  29. So long as I ( Ego ) exists, it is necessary to accept the God.

  30. The path of knowledge through Self enquiry removes the sense of "I". The path of devotion ( Bakhti ) removes the sense of "mine". The end path of knowledge and devotion is one and the same.

  31. Keeping away from other thoughts is called meditation.

  32. When there is no "I", there is no karma.

  33. Self = Existence ( known as sat ) plus consciousness ( known as chit ).

  34. In Jagrat Shusupti ( awakened state ) there is awareness alone but not in ordinary sleep.

  35. The state of pure being is one's real nature, that which is experienced.

  36. What is not natural is not permanent.

  37. In the state of "self" there are no other objects to be seen.

  38. Brahman can be apprehended by the pure mind.

  39. The self is present in all perceptions as the perceiver.

  40. When "I" - Ego is absent, everything comes out of self and goes back to self.

  41. Even if you let go off Bhagwan, He will never let go of you.

  42. Th path of devotion is the same really as that of submission.
