Essence of Sri Ramana Maharishi's teachings and concepts - Part 1

Updated: Mar 18, 2021

Bhagwan Ramana is the whitest spot in a white space. I would like to put forth some notes which I have written after reading some books about Ramana. The intention is to provide a gist of Ramana Maharishi's teachings and a simple interpretation to help readers. I here by submit and dedicate my self to Guru Ramana Maharishi.

1. When Ego(I) disappears in the self, the Man is God.

Meaning: The purpose of spiritual practice is the dissolution of 'I' thought.

2. To see God is to be God.

Meaning: The eternal reflection, natural state of abiding in the self is Ishwara Swarupa or God.

3. Japa

Meaning: Japa is clinging to one thought to the exclusion of all other thoughts.

4. Silence is ever - speaking. Deep meditation is eternal speech.

Meaning: The inner silence is the self surrender, living without the sense of ego.

5. The state of pure being is one's own nature.

Meaning: Be still and enjoy the inner self without any thought process.

6. Nothing happens, except by divine dispensation.

Meaning: You are only a tool in the hands of God. Every result is bestowed upon by Him.

7. So long as a person is active, let him not give up the attempt to realize the self.

Meaning: Self realization is attained with continuous practice.

8. Be a mere witness.

Meaning: Be a mere witness to the happenings in and around you. Never participate.

9. A Jnani remains unaware of his bodily activities because he has no mind, having dissolved in the ecstasy of Chitananda (bliss of the self).

10. A detached man is always in solitude.

11. The state which transcends speech and thoughts is "mouna" or silence. Mouna means meditation without mental activity.

12. When the Prarabdha is completely exhausted, the ego is completely dissolved without leaving any trace behind. This is the final liberation (Nirvana).

Meaning: Unless the ego is completely destroyed, it will rise up again and again.

13. Realization is not to be gained from external sources, It is already there in you. Stillness or peace is otherwise called realization. If you remain as you are, the thoughts get dissolved.

14. The Self is none other than God also known as Heart. The Guru is otherwise known as The Self .
